Life really is more fun when you are fit, don’t you think? I have been pondering this and testing it out.
You don’t have to think twice about whether you can keep up or whether you will be embarassed to run in front of other people. You don’t have to worry about so many things when you are fit and know that you can give just about anything a crack that you might be invited to do for recreation or fun!
This year’s Mother’s Day Classic Fun Run was my first and only after I got there did I realise that I had not given one thought to ‘Oh my goodness I wonder if I can make it to the end of the 4km circuit‘. Not once. When I realised a while after arriving at the event I was so surprised. I was in for double the surprise as I ended up not doing the 4km but instead in the 8km event – haha!
In the week leading up to Mother’s Day I had forced myself to training at Zenergy during the week and was not loving it for a number of reasons – the new schedule was just not working; it was making the juggle I do even more difficult. My wrist was still sore from falling on it and the physio had said not to use it at all in training, so I had had to work around it. I had struggled to enjoy training all week and at times wondered why the bloody hell am I flogging myself through it this week with so much else going on.
I realised why on Sunday at the MDC as I recorded this:
So I did the 8km after initially thinking WTF but it was that or nothing as it was too late to change to 4km & it had already started! I ran some, I walked some. It was just so much fun! I had the company of Jacquite, Ruth P and Annie for much of it so that added to the enjoyment! Thanks gorgeous girls, I had a blast!!
It was a day of celebrating and of having fun. It was a day of gratitude – for my loved one to have come successfully through 1 year post breast cancer diagnosis. It was Mother’s Day and therefore time to thank the women in my life I love and respect. It was also my birthday – and I can’t say I have ever kicked off a birthday with a fun run before!! It was a day of celebrating and being thankful for so much, not least my achievements in overhauling my health, losing weight and developing my fitness. It was a day of celebrating finding the FUN in life again!! How I love that!!
I realised that I train during the week even when it is sometimes not fun or a giant pain in the arse so that I can have maximum fun on the weekends! That’s more than enough reason for me – here’s to staying off the sidelines of life!!
xx Ange

Awesome post Ange! It’s great to see that in these types of organised fun runs that even if you can’t manage running the full distance that it is ok to even walk it too to enjoy in the day. Thank you for inspiring me!
Thanks Bec!! You can definitely walk / shuffle if you choose! Thank YOU for your lovely comments. Wishing you all the best xx
I loved your outfit Ange – you are a hoot! Looked like so much fun!
Great point that even when training in the week is a pain in the arse, it makes the weekends so much better. More energy Fi my family and friends and more for me too! Thanks
