I rarely know what to expect when I head into a 1 on 1 personal training session with Mase. That is just one of the things I really love about our sessions. Mase also gets that I am a bit (!!) cautious and need to overcome that… he is a bit clever at introducing me to things that would otherwise make me run in the opposite direction. He manages to do this because he explains the hows & whys, starts me off gradually with something new so I don’t feel thrown in the deep end and worried about hurting myself or being unable to complete the task.
Enter the BOSU ball! I watched Zenergy co-owner, Tony, jump on & off a BOSU at our Train the Trainer day last year. That was my only exposure to the BOSU. When Mase produced it on Tuesday my brain could not quite compute what *I* would be doing with it! But… as with all training, there is a point at which everyone can start with a piece of equipment. I just want to run before I can crawl… which kinda conflicts with the cautious part of my personality, huh?! Haha. I either have to take less risks or be content to crawl… Hmmm.
So we started the session with me just getting used to the BOSU, warming up and gaining confidence. By the end of the session I was able to do a proper workout of 3 rounds incorporating the BOSU. It was tough but I could see that with each round I was improving a tiny bit and that is enough for me to be stoked! Hell, I was stoked that I even got onto it, it was all a bonus from that point on!
I don’t want perfection – I thrive on moving forward even if it is in teeny tiny baby steps. As long as I can see a little progress, and the potential for more progress with practice, I am hooked.
I can see that working with the BOSU will be really good for my body and I am keen to master it! I came home a little curious about what people more advanced than me would do with a BOSU – here’s a little clip of some things to aim for!
Haha! Now me attempting some of those things might just see me win Funniest Home Videos!
Thanks for another awesome session Mase. Back for more of the same soon!
xx Ange

Glad you enjoyed using the Bosu. I used to use one at pilates a few years ago – for abs, squats, lunges, push ups etc… Squats on the upside down bosu was one of the hardest things – and getting on and off was the worst!!!
Squats, pushups and mountain climbers. Great for the stability muscles!
LOVE my BOSU. I mostly use it for an extra challenge with bodyweight resistance exercises, as well as for a great ab workout. It’s always good to change things up a bit.
The funnest thing I ever did with one was a full-length cardio class at the FILEX conference a few years ago. Imagine a room full of fitness professionals, doing what was essentially a step class using BOSUs… Every one of us fell off at some point (some of us numerous times), so the whole session was punctuated with hilarious giggling.
This guy was the instructor; the video will give you a bit of an idea of what we were in for: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTHNUQWxuvM
